strangely enough, the pigment within a red cabbage is actually a shade of greeny blue, which can be altered with chemicals such as bicarbonate of soda, alum and vinegar (alkaline).
the samples below are 4 different colours created from one vat of red cabbage, which have each been altered to create shades between deep blue and pale aqua green. however the way the colours stuck to the organic bamboo was very different from using a cotton t shirt. unfortunately when using the red cabbage dye bath for a t shirt, even though the bath was a deep rich emerald green colour, it washed out to a very very pale blue, meaning the pigment was fugitive. this means i must do much more research and developments into what mordants work with red cabbage on vegetable fibres
